With one win and one loss from his two matches at Medinah, Christiaan’s career Presidents Cup record now stands at: P6, W3, L2, H1. 

Speaking ahead of the matches, Christiaan had said: “To get the call from Geoff was awesome. Playing for the International Team, playing for the shield and your team mates, is a very special experience; there’s really nothing else like it.”

Captain Geoff Ogilvy had summed up his reasoning for selecting Christiaan: “Bez brings so much to our team. Everybody in the team loves Bez and we’re pumped to have him onboard. Christiaan has experience in this event that would have been difficult to leave on the table. He knows what to expect and he delivers; that’s why I’ve selected him.”

The Internationals were strong from the get-go, including a clean sweep of the foursomes on Friday. In that dominant session, Christiaan teamed up with Presidents Cup veteran Adam Scott to beat a strong American pairing Justin Thomas and Cameron Young by the margin of 3&2. The International duo were never behind in the match. 

After a topsy-turvy Saturday, the International Team entered the Sunday singles with a 10.5-7.5 advantage, its largest lead at this stage in Presidents Cup history. The team needed five points from the 12 matches to win the Cup. Playing against Chris Gotterup in match six, Christiaan fought back from an early three hole deficit to take the match down the 18th, but could only halve the hole in par-4s to lose 1-down. By then, the pendulum had swung towards the home team. Swept along by the momentum of a sea of red on the scoreboard and some raucous home support, they surged across the finish line. Without doubt, the margin of victory, 17-13, belied the overall closeness of this contest until its denouement. 

Speaking to the media afterwards, Geoff Ogilvy didn’t attempt to hide his disappointment, but expressed great pride in his team, commenting: “It was just one of those days; it just felt like it was sort of right on a knife edge for a massive part of the day. If you hole a couple of putts at the right time and get a bit more yellow on the board at the right time, the momentum and the crowd sort of stays out of it a little bit. Just sort of started drifting away for us in the last few hours. Pretty disappointed, but pretty impressed with this group of guys. They were pretty committed to this this week. They all put in. The spirit in the room is great. The energy is amazing. They’re all incredibly motivated to come back in ’28 and do it again. We gave it a good crack. We nearly got there, but pretty disappointed for sure.”
